Attracting a pretty large crowd, the British Museum has been famous world wide for its excellent quality displays. It is a unique blend of human history and culture presented to you in the most enthralling way. An icon of the English land, everything about it creates awe - be it the libraries, Great Court building, restaurants, cafes, shops, or even the huge study rooms. The Paul Hamlyn Library and the departmental study rooms have a particular aura about themselves. Today, the museum has an astounding collection that numbers more than seven million objects and perhaps can be said to be the most comprehensive and largest collection known to mankind.
A visit to the British Museum takes you on a journey through the history of mankind. They have an exquisite anthology of articles spanning the world, from different continents and races of people. Established in 1753, the museum was started with a mere collection from Sir Hans Sloane and has since been adding additional artifacts to the collection. Sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the museum is unique with its national library and national museum of antiques both of utmost excellence and merit.
The Great Court that emerged during the phase of 1975 to 2000 is one of the largest covered squares in Europe. Located at St Pancras, it is the best way to present any book collection. The Great Court has successfully made it possible for everyone to peruse the vast compilations of books. Similarly the Round Reading Room which was used before the Great Court was constructed is another piece of fine architecture. After more than two hundred years in existence, the British Museum is a wonderful example of a nature and art encyclopaedia in the flesh.
British Museum's collections have been classified into various departments like:
- Department of Ancient Egypt and Sudan
- Department of Greek and Roman Antiques
- Department of Middle East
- Department of Prints and Drawings
- Department of Asia
- Department of Africa, Oceania and Americas
- Department of Coins and Medals

Lance Armstrong announced on September 9, 2008 that he would return to competitive cycling in an effort to win the 2009 Tour de France. Since then, Lance experienced a series of mishaps including placing 29th in the Tour Down Under in Australia and breaking a collarbone which forced him to withdraw from the Vuelta Castilla Y Leon in Spain. To top it all off, his favorite bike was stolen in Sacramento. Anyone can agree that this is certainly not how he envisioned his supposed grand comeback. Sadly, Lance Armstrong is not the only one to jeopardize his legacy by attempting another shot at glory only to be embarrassingly worse off. Here are the top three misguided and slightly mortifying comebacks in sports history.
Michael Jordan
Air Jordan's first comeback was hugely successful, earning him three more championship rings with the Chicago Bulls. Also, everyone saw the out-of-this-world brilliance he displayed against Byron Russell in the final seconds in Game 6 of the NBA finals against Utah Jazz. That was indeed the perfect and almost godly way to voluntarily end his career, but then he decided to make a second comeback in 2001 with the Washington Wizards. Throughout the two seasons he played with the club, it was painful to watch Jordan glued to the court, unable to fly like he used to. Don't be mistaken, he still managed to pull a few surprises like scoring 43 points in an NBA game and making the All-Star cut at age 40. But seeing him being outrun, pushed over, and getting blocked by younger but lesser known players made many fans cringe and feel embarrassed for the living legend. To make matters worse, the Washington Wizards officially booted Michael out of the squad in 2003.
Brett Favre
During his prime, Brett Favre was probably the most feared and respected quarterbacks in the NFL. Known as the toughest and greatest gunslinger the Green Bay Packers has ever seen, Favre has three AP MVP awards, one Superbowl ring, and plenty of other championships and awards under his belt. To any professional athlete, this is more than enough legacy to leave behind for the history books. Yet he chose to come out of retirement in 2008 to join the New York Jets. His decision, which garnered much controversy, failed to have the impact everyone was hoping for. The New York Jets lost all of its last five games and missed the playoffs. To add insult to injury, Chad Pennington, the gunslinger that Brett replaced, went on to lead the Miami Dolphins to perhaps the greatest turnaround in NFL history.
Muhammad Ali
He may be the "greatest of all time", but he chose to add embarrassing moments in his biography rather than go down in history with a luminous conclusion to his career. The boxer formerly known as Cassius Clay decided to make a comeback in 1980 only to lose two consecutive fights against Larry Holmes and a then-unknown boxer named Trevor Berbick. Although the defeats did little to wreck his remarkable legacy, it was still a difficult sight for the fans to see a bloated 40-year-old Muhammad Ali getting beat up by far lesser foes. GP

The definitive documentary on the birth of the modern mountain bike.
Eyes remain closed. Alright, this is Enlil. On a more serious note, were in for quite an interesting experience in the future to come, which is interesting. In the future to come...future...I wonder if this has ever been seen, this point. The future, the future, the future, the future...meaning past...future. If the word future exists, and the word past exists, and the word present exists, it implies that past/present/future is already here; is already created, is already manifested. Past has already been experienced. The present is being experienced. The future is experiences to come. Thats already here. In a trinity, blind timeline formation of past, present and future within which human beings are currently existing. Stuck within a timeline construct of past, present and future. Past creates the future within the present, because in the present youre existing of the past, thats already creating/manifesting/designing the future, because your past is always with you in the present, isnt it? Which implies that your future is already created, manifested and designed. Its like an L form. Like an L. Because you stand here with your past in the present, and youre already walking on the bottom leg of the L, which is how human beings are existing in an L form constantly walking on the weighted platform manifestation of the L. I mean if you draw an L, everythings here. You know, its not that you draw a line. Its one movement. Boom boom! L. Here. One. Past/present/future. And ...

The bicycle, bike or cycle is a human-powered vehicle that is driven by foot pedals. It has a basic frame with two wheels attached to it, one after the other. Almost 1.4 billion people in the world use this vehicle, and is obviously one of the most popular and cost-effective vehicles in use today. Not only is it an important and popular means of transport, but also an effective recreational tool. It has several uses such as police and military applications, courier services and cycling sports as well as adult fitness equipment.
Introduced in the 19th century in Europe, bicycle has a host of innovators and inventors credited to its name. The bicycle is supposed to originate from the human-powered vehicle called Draisines. This was introduced to the people in Paris in 1818 by German Baron Karl von Drais. Kirkpatrick MacMillan made an upgrade to this vehicle by adding a mechanical crank drive that as used to drive the vehicle. Thus, the modern `bicycle` came into being.
The French inventors Pierre Michaux and Pierre Lallement designed a high-seated and big front-wheeled bicycle (ordinary bicycle, as it was formally called) that wasn`t much preferred as of its bad weight distribution. The dwarf ordinary bicycle mended these faults but the front oversized wheel remained a problem to be solved. J.K. Starley`s 1885 Rover was the first modern bicycle in its true sense with even wheels and a proper seat.
The modern bicycle has many parts. They may be jotted down as follows.
Frame - Every bicycle today has a `diamond` frame, where the front triangle consists of the head tube, top tube, down tube and seat tube. The rear triangle consists of the seat tube and chain stays as well as seat stays. The basic of bicycle frames is to have high strength yet low weight so as to optimize the energy of the rider to the fullest. Women`s bicycles generally have a step-through frame. This defines that the top tube is absent as it allows the rider (usually a woman) to mount and dismount in a dignified way while wearing a skirt or dress.
Drivetrain - The pedals which rotate the arms of the mechanical crank and chain rings and the brackets, all are elements of the drivetrain. They are used for gears and other related functions in the bicycle.
Handlebars - The handlebars are one of the most important parts of a bicycle. Upright handlebars are used in normal bicycles while dropped handlebars are used in racing and mountaineering bicycles. The latter are used because they give aerodynamic steering and speed to the biker.
Saddles - The saddles are varying depending on the journey and preference of the rider. Cushioned ones are usually used for short journeys while narrower ones are meant to give more space for leg swings.
Brakes - Modern bicycle brakes are usually rim brakes that use friction pads to de-intensify speed. There are also internal hub brakes that have friction pads within the hubs that halt a speeding bicycle. Disc brakes are used on mountain, racing etc bicycles that need braking to be immediate and accurate.
Suspension - A bicycle has suspension to guard itself from the hard roads and also provide comfort to the rider who has to face the rough road.
Wheels - Wheels are necessary for a bicycle to run and reach its destination. Sizes, shapes and powerful wheels vary as per the rider`s needs and choice.
Cities such as Lyon, Barcelona and Paris have used bicycling schemes to good effect. The journey of the bicycle with the human race has been long and important, and will continue to lengthen as long as the human race still exists!
